Introduction to Pilates Series

with Greg Grube and Liz Sexe

Pilates educates and balances the muscles of the body. With careful guidance, it assists everybody to create practical strength and flexibility for themselves. The six principles of Pilates are: Center, Concentration, Control, Precision, Breath and Flow. These principles allow for a Mind/Body/Spirit workout that is filled with practical intention. Focusing on the core muscles (those of the abdominal, spine and pelvic floor) the Pilates Method creates a strong center so limbs can move efficiently and with more freedom. The Pilates Method is cherished by both professional athletes and dancers alike for the longevity it lends to their careers and for its rehabilitative potential. 7:30-9:30PM

James will discuss the 2012 Mayan Prophesy in the light of Vedic astrology as well as the charts of the United States, China, Pakistan, Iran, Israel, and many other countries of the world. This year, he reviews the situation in the world and gives predictions for the USA's new Mars period, which started on September 30, 2008, the exact day of the financial meltdown. James also talks about the stock market, earthquakes, and political struggles that are reflected in the Vedic charts for various countries. In the process he makes predictions for future trends and events taking place in the next decade.

Skinner Releasing Technique
with Julie Mayo

October 10

10AM - 12PM

Skinner Releasing Technique™ (SRT) is an experiential, intuitive approach to movement that has evolved from the simple principle that when we are letting go of habitual holding patterns we can move more freely, articulately, and powerfully. In this introductory class we will use guided imagery, hands-on tactile partner studies and structured improvisations to cultivate greater freedom of movement and multi-directional alignment while simultaneously tapping into our creative capacities and sharpening our kinesthetic perception and performance of movement. Open to all. Wear comfortable clothing and please bring clothing layers.

Julie Mayo is a teacher, performer and director of the project-based Dim Sum Dance. Dim Sum works are often made up of discrete parts: gesture, dancing, voice and sound fragments that create meaningful territories that exist outside the realm of linear narrative. She has been commissioned by the University of Virginia and Wilson College to create new works with their students and her 2007 work On the Count of Three…Love was commissioned by The Virginia Museum of Fine Arts Performance Series. Mayo is a certified teacher of Skinner Releasing Technique™.
