For yoga therapy to be most effective, it must
be individualized. Imbalances can occur in the body in the skeletal
alignment, muscle action, and/or the energetic system, and these
imbalances lead to or contribute to pain and injury. Through careful
observation, teacher and student must gain an understanding of
what imbalances are present and how to work to correct them.
Correction of musculoskeletal and energetic imbalances can be
achieved through the use of proprioceptive feedback. This helps
the student achieve proper alignment, action, and resistance in
appropriate poses in order to re-educate the neuromusculoskeletal
system. The key is ultimately for the student to develop an ongoing
personal practice and continue this motor relearning.
